August, 2007 - A Fisher Cats Night on the Town for Chester College Senior Georgie Jennison and Her Family

Georgie Jennison at Fisher Cats Night

Jennison, an Interdisciplinary Studies major, won tickets this past summer for a box at the Fisher Cats game in Manchester after completing an on-line survey put together by a Southern New Hampshire University Marketing class for the Manchester Area Colleges Consortium (MACC). The MACC, which recently launched its new website, is invested in bringing students to the greater Manchester area and Georgie participated in helping MACC realize its marketing goals.

MACC, an initiative of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and Manchester's ten higher education institutions, was created to introduce the business community and citizens in the area to the numerous opportunities their presence provides. MACC provides many opportunities through academic programs, athletic and cultural events, and other activities in preparing an educated workforce for New Hampshire and the region.

Georgie Jennison was recently selected to win an Avon Hello Tomorrow Fund award that will be based at Chester College of New England this fall. Her project, "Girls of Opportunity," affords at-risk local teenage girls the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative arts and learn confidence-building skills in the process. The program empowers women by encouraging these girls to rise above adversity using the power of self-expression. Georgie first became aware of the importance of self-expression to female empowerment when at age 18 she volunteered at the Banani International Secondary School for Girls in Zambia.

August, 2007 - Manchester Area College Consortium Launches Web Site

The Manchester Area College Consortium (MACC) is launching a new collaborative web site in mid-June.

The site, developed by SilverTech Inc. under the guidance of Nick Soggu, President of SilverTech and Chairman of MACC, is designed to provide information for numerous audiences including: prospective students and their families; present students; area individuals and families; and area businesses. "The site was designed to be multi-functional. It was very important to the Consortium that the information not only serve the students and their families, but assist area residents and local businesses as well," says Nick Soggu.. One way the site will accomplish this is by providing current lists of area professors and academic leaders who are available for community speaking engagements. The Consortium also has plans to launch an online recruitment center in 2008 to assist businesses seeking interns and students seeking internships.

The new site contains academic calendars for each college and university, highlights the academic strengths of each, features outstanding professors, and provides links to each institution's own site. One stop shopping for area hospitality businesses will make it easy to determine important event dates such as parents' weekends, graduations and alumni weekends. The site will eventually look to integrate greater Manchester events into an online calendar in order to also provide area students and residents with information on campus sports, and upcoming arena and arts events.

The Manchester Area College Consortium (MACC) is made up of eleven area colleges and is a program of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. Its mission is to promote the value of higher education and the important role Manchester area colleges play in contributing to the economic, social and cultural well-being of greater Manchester.
